René Xavier

Ph.D. Candidate

Indian River Lagoon Graduate Research Fellow

As an Indian River Lagoon Graduate Research Fellow, I use applied genomics and bioinformatics to study the biosynthesis of marine natural products. Specifically, I explore the microbiome and virome of one of the most biodiverse estuaries in North America and the biomarkers to predict toxic harmful algal blooms. Additionally, I genome mine deep-sea sponges for biosynthetic gene clusters that produce novel therapies.
